Was it worth it? For me, yes — not because every corner sparkled, but because the stay did what I needed: a lively evening downstairs and a room that actually let me sleep. That split personality is River Rock’s whole trick, and guests with thousands of reviews keep saying the same thing.
The room greeted me with decent light and more space than I expected. The bed was the first win — linen felt cared for, mattress supportive. A few finishes looked dated if you hunted for scuffs, yet housekeeping clearly still shows up. The view toward the river side of Richmond softened the whole arrival.
Night, approach, desk
After dark the casino floor turns the volume up in the best way if you came to play. When I was done, the walk back upstairs felt like changing neighbourhoods inside one building. That hush guests rave about is real enough that I skipped earplugs.
Approaching along River Road, the resort reads large and unmistakable — valet bustle, bright entry, the sense that evenings start in the lobby. Check-in took a few minutes in the afternoon flow; keys landed, directions were clear, and the corridor walk to my floor was straightforward.
Location and a return ticket
For my trip the location was the sleeper hit: Richmond connectivity without needing a downtown hotel. I moved around easily enough that the resort became a base, not a trap. I would come back for a friends’ weekend that wants tables, a pool reset, and a quiet room upstairs — less so if I were chasing destination dining on property alone.
